Book Appreciation Post – The Stepford Wives by Ira Levin

This is a little appreciation post for The Stepford Wives by Ira Levin.

It’s famous, shocking, and paved the way for so many comparable stories.

It even entered our regular lexicon. I’m sure you’ve met *that woman* before; the one who has it all together, keeps her house and family in perfect condition, and does it all while looking like a 1950s supermodel.

Hats off to that woman, but it’s an impossible standard for the rest of us to live up to.

This book immediately came to mind while recently reading The Husbands by Chandler Baker. The stories ran parallel, with key differences in the most delightful ways.

As a speculative suspense story, The Stepford Wives is fascinating. As a commentary on gender roles and norms, it’s terrifying.
