My Favorite Things in October
October and November are probably my most favorite months of the year. It’s fall (my favorite season), we get Halloween and Thanksgiving (my favorite holidays), and pumpkins! I did a lot of nesting this month, so you’ll see a lot of Netflix among my favorite non-bookish things.
Favorite Things in October
STREAMING
Kath & Kim – Netflix
This Australian TV sitcom is the best! One highlight: a local musical adaptation of The Hours, complete with giant dancing noses. If I could talk to them directly, I’d say, “Look at me, look at me, look at muuuuueeee. Make more episodes, toot suite!”
STREAMING
Train to Busan – Netflix
This Korean horror movie has it all: zombies, chase scenes, and an adorable little girl. Basically, zombies chase passengers around on a train for the whole movie. But we get to know and care about all of the passengers in the process. Great movie.
MOVIE
Halloween
The new Halloween movie is so good! Jamie Lee Curtis kicks ass. We rewatched the original one in preparation for the 2018 version. Both are worthy of going down on the all-time-best horror movie lists, and it’s gratifying to watch Laurie Strode’s progression.
STREAMING
The Haunting of Hill House – Netflix
I’m only one episode in and already hooked on this show on Netflix, Is it a faithful envisioning of the Shirley Jackson classic? No. But it doesn’t need to be. I’m glad it’s a series as opposed to a movie so it can take its time to settle into the story.
MUSIC
How Do You Do It – Empress Of
Empress Of is the musical name for Lorely Rodriguez. I’ve been listening to her official debut album You on repeat. The sound she creates is spectacular. It’s like giving my ears the most decadent, luscious dessert.
