Sometimes I do other things than reading. Strange, right? Here are some of my favorite things I enjoyed last month.
First, let’s cover the yummy stuff. It’s already pumpkin spice season at Starbucks, which instantly makes me want all things warm and cozy.
Ironically, it’s still in the high 90s Fahrenheit here in the midwest. But any office worker knows that the hotter it gets outside, the colder it gets in the office. So it’s like experiencing two seasons at once, depending on whether you’re inside or out.
Here’s the recipe I’ve been obsessed with making at home lately, adapted from the one on Jillian Harris’ blog. It’s caffeine-free and relatively lowish in sugar, at least compared to the Starbucks goodies.
Pumpkin steamer recipe
- 1 ¼ cups milk of your choice
- ⅛ cup canned pumpkin puree
- 1 tsp maple syrup (add more for the sweetness you want)
- ¼ tsp pumpkin pie spice
- ¼ tsp pure vanilla extract
You can whisk this on the stovetop, but here’s the magic step that makes it so much easier and yummier. Just put the whole thing in a milk frother and set it to heat and whir.
The off-brand milk frother I got from Amazon is mysteriously not available anymore, which probably means mine will short out or blow up within a couple of months. But hey, it was cheap! Here’s a similar one:
I’ve also heard great things about the Smeg and Breville brands of milk frothers but couldn’t force myself to part with the money. One day, maybe:
After that, all you have to do is kick back with a book, sip, and enjoy! Also, brace yourself because pumpkin stuff is probably going to be on my list of favorite things for the next several months.
I recently posted about my precious baby…I mean, dog. If there were a perfect pup meant for us and us for her, she would be it.
I wasn’t always a dog person. Do you know those people who are childless by choice? (totally valid lifestyle, by the way) That’s the way I felt about pets. I love ‘em but don’t need any of my own. But then my guilt got the best of me after my son begged for a dog for years. So we got her, fell in love, and dogs became 100% more wonderful in my eyes.
I mean, look at that fluffy pompadour. Hold on a sec, gotta pet her.
This starry lamp
This one is a lie because it isn’t something I did in August. But dangit, this craft took me several nights to do, and it looks so cute that I just have to show it off.
The blog for A Piece of Rainbow has step-by-step instructions and printables to make the process a lot easier. But don’t get me wrong, it still took a LOT of work to get done. I used extra adhesive and even staples to make it last longer, then covered the whole thing in flat black spray paint.
After that amount of effort, this baby had better last me for years!
