Joseph Cassara, definitely.
He wrote The House of Impossibly Beauties, which was, to me, incredibly beautiful in its grittiness. It’s a fictional take on the drag queens of the early 1980s, many of them portrayed in the documentary Paris is Burning. Cassara’s characters came alive. I could see their want, their glitter, their tough shell, their hope. And I loved them.
