Video: Bracket Predictions for the Morning News Tournament of Books

Watch this video and other bookish things on YouTube here.

The Morning News’ Tournament of Books is underway!

Each year, The Morning News will make a long list of the previous year’s best books.

Next, they narrow the list down to a shortlist of the best of the best (as determined by them).

Here comes the fun part: they put the shortlist books into brackets! Like March Madness for books!

Here is my attempt to make predictions on winners based on my own bracket. Of course, I don’t understand brackets well at all.

At. All.

I managed to completely ignore the fact that Sudden Death was actually part of a play-in match and wasn’t guaranteed a spot in the bracket.

…And also the zombie picks. My understanding is that you can bring a book back from the dead to have another chance at winning. I skipped over the zombie picks in this video because I just knew I’d mess them up.

I’m taking notes this year so that next year I can come back with at least some idea of how to do this thing right.

Ultimate winner: I’m pretty sure it’ll be The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead.

Many other brackets I’ve seen have predicted Homegoing FTW, which would not surprise me at all. Homegoing is such a great book.

For the record, here is my bracket:
